Centennial Hall has the distinction of being the state's oldest high school building still standing, which has lovingly been turned into a museum. Located at the corner of Third and Macomb, it is open Memorial Day through Labor Day, Thursday and Friday, from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. and on Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. or by appointment. 

 

Each of the 12 school rooms are uniquely appointed with antiques, artifacts, and history from the people who settled the Sandhills. The building dates to 1897. 

 

There is also a thrift shop which is open during the season as well. Off season and day tours are available by appointment. 

 

The Cherry County Historical Society Museum is located at the intersection of Highway 20 and Main Street with parking along the west. 

 

Funds from the Doris Taylor Estate allowed the museum to add an additonal exhibit room that showcases the cowboy way of life, complete with brand boards, a wagon, saddles, and an old school room. 

 

A unique collection of porcelain dolls was donated by the Suzanne Graves estate.  Each of the more than 100 dolls were researched, dressed, and costumed by Suzanne. A book was made by Suzanne that has the history of each of the ladies, some well known good samaritans, and others infamous and notorious. 

 

Both of the museums have showcases of local soldier's uniforms that date back to the 1800s, when Fort Niobrara was an actual outpost. 

 

There is admission\donation to these facilities for them to keep up maintenance and curate the displays for you enjoy the rich history on display of the Sandhills.
