The Sandhills of Nebraska

The Sandhills are the gateway to the west while covering the north central portion of Nebraska and extend north west into South Dakota.

Lying below the surface of the Sandhills is one of the largest aquifers in North America called the Ogallala Aquifer. Between the sand dunes - which is what the Sandhills are made up of, along with tall grass, are many ponds and lakes. In some areas Ponderosa Pines.

The Sandhills cover 19,600 square miles and are the largest sand dune formation in America with 1.3 million acres of wet lands and one billion acre-feet of ground water and 2.4 million acre feet of spring fed streamflow.

What does this mean for you? ADVENTURE!!!

The Sandhills are perfect for your get away...for yourself...a group of friends...but more importantly your family YEAR ROUND!!! THERE'S ALWAYS SOMETHING TO DO!

Specifically, the town of Valentine, was named by National Geographic Adventure Magazine, in 2009, as one of their top ten Adventure towns in the Wilderness Category. Read more here:

Talk about wilderness...north central Nebraska is a part of the central flyway migration and is a bird lovers paradise. Plants and animals are in abundance and live together peacefully.

Just because we're located in the middle of nowhere - quite literally - doesn't mean that we are an uncivilized bunch...quite the contrary. There's things to do here all year long. If the weather is too hot, or too cold, there's always shopping with some wonderful, quaint, shops throughout the town!
